Role Summary
We are pleased to support a lovely, busy family we know well. We are seeking a confident, warm, and highly organised live-in nanny to work in a shared-care arrangement with a very hands-on mother and their trusted long-term nanny while in Cape Town.
Care is for one child (a girl, 2½ years old) who is empathetic, curious, articulate, and active. You will bring a calm presence, a thoughtful routine, and engaging, age-appropriate activities; provide reliable sole charge during short periods; and work seamlessly with the mother and resident nanny to help the household run smoothly and harmoniously during this Cape Town season.
This is a short-term, Cape Town–based assignment only, ideal for an experienced nanny already living in South Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer attentive and compassionate care, creating a safe, calm environment for the child.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (arts and crafts, early science, reading, outdoor play) to support physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
- Maintain consistent daily routines: meals, naps, playtime, and simple learning moments.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and organisation in the child’s areas and belongings.
- Maintain a balanced yet clear approach to boundaries, grounded in kindness and respect.
- Assist mother and child with appointments, activities, and outings as needed.
- Offer short-term sole charge with confidence and sound judgement.
- Accompany the family on local outings and short trips as required.
- Communicate discreetly and professionally; safeguard the family’s privacy at all times.
- Collaborate closely with the mother and resident nanny to ensure a consistent, joined-up approach.
Candidate Profile
Essential
- Extensive experience as a nanny in private families; excellent references.
- Recognised childcare training or education (e.g. early years, Montessori, or equivalent).
- Calm, gentle temperament; patient, observant, and responsive to a young child’s needs.
- Gentle, respectful approach to discipline based on clear, kind boundaries.
- Exceptionally organised; takes pride in maintaining tidy, well-ordered children’s spaces.
- Reliable and flexible work ethic; comfortable adjusting to family schedules and needs.
- Currently based in South Africa (ideally Cape Town) with legal right to work locally.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Desirable
- Knowledge of developmental milestones and creative, play-based learning.
- Experience supporting healthy sleep routines.
- Capable of preparing simple, healthy meals and snacks for children.
- Confident swimmer.
