Start Date: Beginning of July 2026

Schedule: An initial 14-day round-the-clock booking, followed by a second support period in August/September 2026

Position Summary
International Nanny is seeking an experienced, English-speaking Maternity Nurse to support a warm and welcoming family in Norway as they prepare to welcome their third baby in early July 2026.
This role involves a staged placement. The successful candidate will initially stay with the family for a continuous two-week period working around the clock, before returning for a second support phase later in August or September 2026. The follow-up schedule is likely to be either 24/6 or 24/5, subject to the family’s requirements and the agreed arrangement.
The family is seeking an experienced and reassuring Maternity Nurse with a calm, service-oriented approach and a genuine understanding of how to support the entire household, not just the baby. They are especially eager to find someone with a similar profile and style to a previous Maternity Nurse they had an excellent experience with: mature, knowledgeable, steady, practical, and confident in guiding the early newborn period.
The mother plans to breastfeed, so the role requires someone who supports breastfeeding, can read the baby’s cues carefully, is mindful of weight gain and feeding progress, and has experience in helping families establish a realistic and sustainable routine without adopting an overly rigid approach.
Although the primary responsibility will be caring for all newborn-related duties, the ideal candidate should also be flexible and family-oriented. There are two older siblings in the household who have their own nanny, but the Maternity Nurse should be prepared to offer support when needed, especially when the mother requires practical assistance or an extra pair of hands.
Key Responsibilities
The Maternity Nurse will take full responsibility for all aspects of newborn care during the agreed periods of employment, while working in close partnership with the parents.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert 24-hour newborn care throughout the initial placement
- Supporting the family through the immediate postnatal period with calm, professional guidance
- Promoting and supporting breastfeeding in a manner that is responsive, well-informed, and practical.
- Monitoring feeding, settling, sleep patterns, and the baby’s overall wellbeing.
- Responding appropriately to the baby’s cues through reading them accurately.
- Supporting healthy weight gain and assisting the family in establishing a sustainable routine.
- Advising on newborn care, sleep, feeding, hygiene, and overall early development.
- Keep all nursery areas clean, organised, and well prepared.
- Sterilising bottles and feeding equipment where necessary
- Handling baby laundry while upholding high standards in all baby-related areas
- Supporting the mother’s recovery by establishing a calm, organised, and efficiently managed environment.
- Working collaboratively with parents in a respectful and reassuring manner
- Remaining adaptable and prepared to support the broader family dynamic when suitable.
- Providing continuity and guidance before the second stage of the placement to ensure progress is maintained during the break between bookings.
Schedule and Structure
The initial booking is expected to commence around early July 2026, depending on the baby’s actual arrival date. As with all maternity placements, flexibility regarding the start date is crucial, as the birth may occur earlier or later than expected.
The first stage of the role will be:
- 14 consecutive days
- 24-hour cover
- With a typical four-hour daily break, usually taken in the morning, to allow the Maternity Nurse proper rest and personal time.
Following this, there will be a gap before a second booking resumes in August or September 2026. For this follow-up period, the family is considering either:
- 24/6, or
- 24/5
Depending on practical needs at the time.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and emotionally intelligent Maternity Nurse who combines strong newborn knowledge with warmth, flexibility, and excellent professional judgement.
The family is looking for someone who is:
- Fluent in English
- Highly experienced in newborn and postnatal care
- Confident supporting breastfeeding mothers
- Skilled in establishing routines in a gentle and sustainable way
- Calm, capable, and discreet
- Practical, hands-on, and reassuring in nature
- Flexible in approach and happy to work as part of a team
- Service-oriented, with a genuine desire to support the family as a whole
- Comfortable adapting to the rhythm and needs of a private household
- Able to communicate clearly and proactively during the pre-labour and labour period in order to coordinate travel and arrival smoothly
Additional Notes
The chosen candidate must be available to remain in close communication with the family in the lead-up to the birth, so that travel can be coordinated efficiently once labour begins. As the role is based in Norway and arrival timing is important, the family would value someone organised, responsive, and experienced in managing this type of arrangement professionally.
This is a lovely opportunity for a knowledgeable and family-minded Maternity Nurse who enjoys working with capable parents in a collaborative way and who understands that excellent newborn care also involves bringing calm, structure, and practical support to the wider household.
Salary and Employment Terms
The salary for this role is £400+ gross per day, depending on experience, qualifications, and suitability for the family’s requirements.
Please note that Maternity Nurses are typically engaged on a self-employed basis and are therefore responsible for managing their own taxes, national insurance, and any relevant professional insurance.
Who This Role Would Suit
This position would suit a polished and experienced Maternity Nurse who is confident with newborns, supportive of breastfeeding, and naturally inclined to work in a way that feels both professional and personal. It is particularly well-suited to someone who understands the rhythm of private households, values communication and flexibility, and takes pride in helping families feel calmer, more rested, and well-supported during the newborn stage.
