Full-time, English-speaking Nanny to work in France, UK and Portugal

Details of the Assignment: 

A health-conscious and alternative-minded family, who have a gentle and playful approach to parenting, are looking for a like-minded Nanny to join their household and help with looking after their three children. Both parents are actively involved in the daily lives of the children as they are able to work from home and enjoy being part of their children’s day,

The Nanny will work 8am-5pm Monday-Friday with the occasional requirement to stay later. The position will be quite collaborative with the parents, sharing care and education responsibilities on a day-to-day basis in response to the children’s needs and desires. The family is currently based at a farm in the Pyrenees area of France and intend to stay here for about 4 months until January. In February they will be spending a month in Costa Rica, followed by 5 months in the UK from March until August, therefore the nanny will need to be open and ready to travel.

The family are looking for someone who is present, grounded, playful, flexible, easy-going, understanding, gentle, kind, patient, enjoys the outdoors and making things like nature crafts. The family are following an unschooling/worldschooling approach with the children and spend time in the countryside, mostly outdoors. They enjoy a lot about the Montessori, Waldorf and RIE approaches to parenting and childcare, although they are not following anything in particular and want to allow the children the space and freedom to learn naturally. The role of the nanny will be to support the children’s learning in collaboration with the parents. The eldest child is the oldest is now getting to the place where he is so curious and specific in what he wants to learn and create so the nanny should assist him more directly by organizing and supporting his interests. Right now, he loves to create various arts and crafts, draw, build things from wood and other natural materials, play chess, and likes learning about animals, herbs, bushcraft, and space.
